On Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 4:25 a.m. Pharr Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence located at 221 E. Emil in Pharr, Texas.

On arrival, (2) Pharr Police officers were met by (2) males that indicated to the officers that the male involved in the domestic disturbance was inside the home. A male individual, Martin Gomez 46 years of age, exited out the front door charging at the police officers holding a knife in each hand.

The Pharr Police Officers discharged their firearms striking Mr. Gomez. An ambulance was quickly summoned and Mr. Gomez was transferred to a local hospital.

The Pharr Police Department, following standard protocol, contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety Ranger Division requesting their independent criminal investigation of the officers involved shooting. The Texas Rangers arrived shortly thereafter.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. we were notified that Mr. Martin Gomez had passed away. A Justice of the Peace was summoned and J.P. Jerry Munoz conducted the inquest ordering an autopsy.

The two officers involved are a 5 year veteran of the department and a 1-year veteran of the department. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance to departmental policy.

The investigation is being conducted by Texas Rangers.
