Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. and Pharr City officials are pleased to announce the successful funding award of more than $1.5 million from the Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the PSJA Tri-City Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project under the Transportation Alternatives Program.

The project is a collaboration between the City of Pharr, the City of San Juan, the City of Alamo, and the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, and will provide pedestrian safety by proposing safe routes to surrounding PSJA ISD schools while improving connections between the tri-city area. The project will extend sidewalks to encourage the use of alternative transportation by providing a safe haven for pedestrians and bicyclists, which will, in turn, improve the health and safety of students and residents.
