In October, 2012, the Innovation & Technology Department set forth on a project to allow the smooth notification of city events and information concerning the city to its employees and visitors in all city buildings. This project was approved for by the city commission and staff started testing and deploying the systems. Within three months most of the city facilities were equipped with a system referred to as “Pharr NOW”. This system continuously distributes up to the minute information from a central system located at City Hall. In less than 8 months, it has become a house hold name in the community and has achieved special recognition by city leadership and elected officials.
“This system allows us to share information on our staff and what is going on in Pharr”, Jason Arms, Innovation & Technology Director for the city said. This is a system that can be quickly modified to display emergency notifications to staff and visitors if an emergency exists he said.
With displaying upcoming events and any emergencies within the city, the Pharr NOW system also shows pictures of various staff members in all departments.
