Pharr International Bridge Announces New Hours

Pharr, Texas – The Pharr International Bridge announces temporary pilot programs designed to relieve congestion, increase truck throughput, and reduce border wait times at Pharr’s international land port of entry. These pilot programs are being implemented as a result of the reduced Customs and Border Protection personnel at the port and deployed to the Southern border as mandated by the federal government.

 

In an effort to keep the public aware and informed, the Bridge announces the following new hours of operation, effective April 15, 2019.

The following schedule applies during the temporary pilot program period:

SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC (TO MEXICO)

Hours of service remain the same

Cars & Passenger Vehicles

Monday – Sunday (6 am to 12 am)

Commercial Trucks

Monday – Friday (7 am to 11 pm)

Saturday –  Sunday (7 am – 4 pm)

NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC (FROM MEXICO)

Small empty trucks and short trucks (no trailers) are authorized to cross through Car/Passenger Vehicle Lane (Estimated relief: 250 – 300 trucks daily)

Monday – Friday (8 am – 4 pm)

Empty Tanker Trailer Trucks are authorized to cross through Car/Passenger Vehicle Lane (Estimated relief: 250 – 300 trucks daily)

Monday – Friday (8 am – 1 pm)

Cars and Passenger Vehicle Lane is closed for cars, giving priority to commercial trucks.

Monday – Friday (6 am – 4 pm)

All pilot programs are temporary and will be reviewed by Bridge staff, trade partners, and relevant stakeholders on a weekly basis to discuss feedback regarding the programs, make adjustments if necessary, and possibly plan for other contingencies.

 

Bridge officials will continue to keep the public aware and informed as the pilot programs progress.

Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr will host a groundbreaking ceremony for A PORTUS Freight Forwarding Services, LLC, an import and export company covering Canada, US, and Mexico. The groundbreaking will take place at 11 am TOMORROW, TUESDAY, APRIL 23 at 10724 S. Sugar Rd, Pharr, TX.

“We have a great partnership with A PORTUS and we are excited to see their business growing and prospering in Pharr,” said Victor Perez, Pharr EDC Executive Director.

A PORTUS is thrilled to be expanding in Pharr. This new facility will help the company keep up with growth and demand.

“Pharr is the ideal location for our company,” said Andres Zuniga. “With its proximity to the international bridge and access to major thoroughfares, we have seen our company grow and are excited to see what the future holds as we lay down roots,” he added.

PHARR – The Texas Department of Transportation will conduct a public meeting to discuss updates to the Texas-Mexico Border Transportation Master Plan (BTMP) on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Pharr Events Center, located at 3000 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr.

The meeting will begin with an open house at 5:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6 p.m. A facilitated working session will be held after the presentation. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public an opportunity to learn about the BTMP and provide input on needs, challenges, and opportunities for moving people and goods across the border and within the border region.

TxDOT, in collaboration and partnership with the Border Trade Advisory Committee, is working with U.S. and Mexican agencies and stakeholders to update the BTMP. The master plan will identify the cross-border challenges of moving people and goods and will include analysis of existing transportation systems — roadway, transit, pedestrian, pipeline, air, rail, ports and waterways.

The plan will analyze current and future transportation and will include a prioritized list of transportation investment strategies that improves the efficient movement of people and goods across the border and supports binational, state, regional and local economic competitiveness.

Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Pharr Bridge Administration Building Expansion at 11:30 am on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Pharr International Bridge (9900 S. Cage Blvd).

 

“This expansion will increase the administration building by over 3,000 square feet, providing much-needed space for offices and conference rooms, among other needed improvements,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. “Our bridge services continue to grow and in order to keep up with the demand, we need to secure more space to better serve our customers,” he added.

 

Plans for the Pharr Bridge Administration Building include the construction of five new offices and conference rooms, the expansion of restrooms, the customer care lobby area and payment center, and the modernization of the toll booth area. Expanding the facility will allow Pharr Bridge staff and personnel to better serve the trade community and end-users.

The Board of Commissioners of the City of Pharr met for a regular meeting on Monday, April 1, 2019, and considered an agenda that included the following highlights:

April 14-20 Designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

 

Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. and the Pharr City Commission proclaimed the week of April 14-20, 2019, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Pharr. Danny Ramirez, Communications Director for the city, accepted the proclamation and thanked city leaders for recognizing and honoring Pharr’s telecommunications department. The department, which serves as the single vital link for our police officers, firefighters, and EMT’s responds to emergency calls, dispatches emergency professionals and equipment and renders life-saving assistance to citizens. “Our telecommunications dispatch and personnel are integral to public safety and we commend their hard work and dedication,” stated Mayor Hernandez.

 

 

City Approves Ordinance Renaming Rancho Blanco Road to Javelina Drive

 

Pharr City leaders approved an ordinance renaming Rancho Blanco Road to Javelina Drive. The renaming of the public roadway to Javelina Drive will benefit the students and community of PSJA Southwest Early College High School, a Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD campus whose mascot is a Javelina. The City of Pharr continues to proudly support partnerships with our educational institutions to benefit our communities.
