City of Pharr Hosts Critical Water Symposium Led by Chairman Terry Canales

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2024

Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr proudly hosted the Deep South Texas State of Water Symposium, an essential gathering organized by Chairman and State Representative Terry Canales, with support from Finance Vice-Chairman Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, and the Texas Water Foundation. This pivotal event brought together key leaders and experts from across the region and state to address the pressing water issues facing the Rio Grande Valley.

Water management has become a critical concern, impacting the region’s economy, public health, and future growth. This symposium served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss water conservation strategies and sustainable initiatives, ensuring a resilient future for the Valley.

“Water is a fluid subject, no pun intended, it moves quickly and it’s moving quickly and we’re running out of it quickly and so it’s important to have all these people at the table when we’re looking for long-term solutions for the future,” said Chairman Canales.

Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. expressed gratitude to Chairman Canales for spearheading this effort, emphasizing the importance of collaborating on solutions ahead of the upcoming legislative session.

“We are deeply grateful to Chairman Canales for organizing this crucial symposium,” said Mayor Hernandez. “These discussions are vital to safeguarding the future of our region’s water resources,” he added.

The event featured panels, Q&As, and updates from agencies and municipalities. The City of Pharr is grateful to all participants and attendees for working together to discuss viable water solutions for the future.

Key attendees included Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, and Senator Morgan LaMantia, who provided insights on state and federal initiatives.

The City of Pharr remains committed to working alongside these leaders to secure the region’s water future for generations to come.
