City of Pharr to Host Check Presentation for $20 Million Bridge Expansion on Tuesday, 8/6 @ 11 AM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2024

Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr is proud to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and support economic growth at the Pharr International Bridge. Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, and Texas State Representative Terry Canales, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, will present a $20 million check for the expansion of the Pharr International Bridge.

This momentous event will take place on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pharr One (1121 E. Nolana Loop) in Pharr.

During the 88th Texas Legislative Session, Senator Hinojosa and Chairman Canales successfully passed legislation to allocate $20 million from the state budget to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This funding is specifically earmarked for constructing the second span of the Pharr International Bridge, a critical infrastructure project for the City of Pharr.

The City of Pharr is grateful to have the support of Senator Hinojosa, Chairman Canales, and the Texas Legislature in its efforts to expand the bridge and enhance operations.

The Pharr International Bridge is the third-ranked port in Texas for trade with Mexico and the seventh-largest and fastest-growing land port of entry nationwide. Facilitating 65% of the nation’s produce from Mexico and handling over $47 billion in annual trade, the bridge is a cornerstone of Pharr’s economic engine, driving trade and commerce that benefits the entire region, state, and nation.

The expansion of the Pharr International Bridge is vital to accommodate the increasing trade volumes and to ensure the efficient movement of goods. This project underscores Pharr’s commitment to supporting infrastructure development that boosts economic prosperity for its community and beyond.

All media and the public are invited to attend.
