City of Pharr Proclaims April as Fair Housing Month

The Pharr City Commission approved a proclamation declaring April 2026 as Fair Housing Month, recognizing the importance of ensuring equal housing opportunities for all residents. The proclamation highlights the significance of the Federal Fair Housing Act and encourages the community to support efforts that promote fair and inclusive housing across all neighborhoods. The recognition was presented alongside board members and staff of the Pharr Housing Authority. Pharr Housing Authority Board President Mario Lizcano shared that the organization currently serves over 3,200 residents in the City of Pharr and expressed appreciation for the team’s continued dedication. “Thank you to our Pharr Housing team and Interim Director Lazaro Guerra for continuing to meet the needs of our city and for working with our residents to provide a community for our families,” said Lizcano. He also thanked Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez and the Pharr City Commission for their continued support and leadership.

Pharr Proclaims April 6-10, 2026, as National Community Development Week

The Pharr City Commission approved a proclamation declaring April 6–10, 2026, as National Community Development Week, recognizing the impact of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in supporting public services, housing programs, and community development initiatives. The program has helped build strong partnerships between local government, residents, and nonprofit organizations to serve low- and moderate-income communities. The proclamation was presented by Sandra Regalado, CDBG Manager for the City of Pharr, alongside staff members and partner organizations, including members of To Give International and Ave Frontera. Regalado shared that this marks the 52nd anniversary of the CDBG program, with the City of Pharr administering the program for 32 years and currently managing 72 entitlements. The city will also host a community celebration in recognition of the program’s 52nd anniversary and its continued impact.

Pharr Proclaims April 5–11, 2026, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The Pharr City Commission approved a proclamation declaring April 5–11, 2026, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, recognizing 9-1-1 telecommunicators as the vital link between the public and emergency responders. These highly trained professionals, often referred to as the “unseen first responders,” provide critical communication, rapid decision-making, and life-saving guidance during emergencies, ensuring the effectiveness of police, fire, and EMS services. The proclamation was presented by Danny Ramirez, Interim Public Safety Communications Director and Pharr EMS Chief, alongside members of the Pharr Telecommunications staff. “Our telecommunicators are the calm in the chaos and the first voice our residents hear in their most critical moments, whether it’s a medical emergency, a fire, or a call for police assistance,” said Ramirez. “They manage high call volumes, make life-saving decisions, and provide safety and calm for our residents. We appreciate all that they do,” he added. The City of Pharr is thankful for its outstanding telecommunications personnel and the care, dedication, and professionalism they bring to serving the community each day!
