City of Pharr Celebrates Milestone Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for DAP 15 Projects

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2024

Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr proudly hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the milestone completion of the Northbound Lane Expansion and the 2nd BSIF Exit at the Pharr International Bridge. These projects, part of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Donations Acceptance Program (DAP) 15, were achieved through collaboration with federal partners to enhance trade and travel facilitation.

Held on July 29, 2024, at the Pharr International Bridge, the event celebrated Pharr’s proactive infrastructure investments. The event was attended by dignitaries including state, federal, and regional partners.

As the first port of entry to participate in the DAP, Pharr’s collaboration with CBP and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) allowed expedited infrastructure projects, increasing commercial truck output and efficiency.

“Our administration has long prioritized infrastructure improvements at the Pharr International Bridge,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. “Through innovative partnerships like DAP, we have enhanced cross-border movement and accommodated future growth at the Pharr International Bridge.”

This collaborative effort, led by the GSA, CBP, and the City of Pharr, resulted in the construction of new inbound commercial lanes and exit booths, significantly enhancing the Pharr Land Port of Entry’s (LPOE) capacity.

Through the project, the new Commercial Entry Lanes/Booths expanded the roadway and entry booths to expedite commercial traffic from Mexico to the U.S., increasing bridge capacity and inspection efficiency for secure, certified, and empty trucks. In addition, the new Commercial Exit Lanes/Booths expanded and relocated exit booths to improve traffic flow and connectivity to the new BSIF, ensuring timely truck inspections and cargo delivery.

Mayor Hernandez expressed pride in the city’s efforts stating, “Pharr’s collaboration with CBP and GSA through DAP expedited these projects, producing tangible solutions to critical needs and improving trade and productivity at our international port of entry.”

The completion of the Pharr International Bridge expansion marks another milestone in enhancing trade infrastructure, driving economic growth, and fostering community development.
