Pharr PD Launches Bike Patrol; Hosts Bike Certification
Pharr, Texas – In an effort to provide additional safety and law enforcement presence in our community, the Pharr Police Department has launched a bike patrol. Officers from the Pharr Police Department interested in participating in the new bike patrol are currently undergoing training and certification this week to learn and implement the knowledge and skills required to maintain safe biking while on patrol.
“With an increase in outdoor physical activity in our community, and with the increase in outdoor opportunities such as new parks and the hike-and-bike trail, we felt it was important to enhance our ability to provide for the safety and wellbeing of our community residents, and having a bike patrol gives us a much easier presence to navigate and patrol these types of outdoor recreational facilities to keep our community safe,” said Pharr Police Chief Andy Harvey.
The training was also extended to neighboring law enforcement agencies to participate as well; participants include officers from the City of Mission Police Department, Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, among others.
Tomorrow, Friday, October 30, 2020, is the last day of bike certification. Trainees will participate in obstacle courses to demonstrate their mastery of the training and necessary skills required to be certified on bike patrol.
