city of pharr texas
state of the city address 2020
Dear Friend of Pharr,
Over the last year, we have seen tremendous growth, progress, and economic development throughout Pharr, marking a year of strong financial revenues, enhanced services for our community, and improved quality of life for our Pharr families. As 2019 ends, I am proud to report that the City of Pharr had a great year and I am especially thankful for our outstanding team of city administrators, staff, and employees, who together with our city commission and citizens continue to make Pharr a great place to live, work, play, and stay!
Throughout 2019 we continued to prioritize city services to enhance the quality of life for our citizens and improve the economic vitality of our city businesses. Projects that we undertook included road and drainage infrastructure improvements, the expansion of parks, construction of a new fire department in South Pharr, a new state-of-the-art Public Safety Communications Building, forging new partnerships with our local school districts and higher education institutions, and the creation of new city-focused festivals and events.
Pharr is a city poised for dynamic growth and I am proud to be working together with you, our partners, to ensure that we continue this trajectory. As the Mayor of Pharr, I have taken great pride in ensuring the success of our city, while also helping our communities across the Rio Grande Valley in realizing our power in numbers through regionalization efforts, advocacy, and representation at the local, state, and national levels. When we work together, we can accomplish amazing things for our Rio Grande Valley communities!
This year we proved just that as the City of Pharr led the way for the merger of our local Metropolitan Planning Organizations into one regional entity, the Rio Grande Valley MPO. Through this merger, we now have access to millions of dollars in transportation infrastructure funding at the state and federal levels; funding that will help us improve our roadways, expand our connectivity, and allow for the construction of new roads and bridges.
As we gear up for the 2020 Census, we want to continue to advocate for our needs and build upon the momentum that we have started. There is power in numbers and we need to ensure that everyone in the Rio Grande Valley is counted so that we may continue to receive the resources, funding, representation, and services that our region not only deserves but needs.
We will be hosting our annual State of the City Address on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pharr Events Center. Partnerships remain at the forefront of everything we do in Pharr and as such, we ask that you consider helping make this year’s event as successful as prior years by sponsoring our event. All sponsors will be recognized at the event according to their respective levels of contribution. Please see the enclosed sponsorship packet for details.
Pharr has so much offer for our citizens and our neighboring communities, and we continue to work to attract new economic growth, while remaining committed to the safety and quality of life of our citizens and families. We are proud of the great work we are doing in our community and look forward to sharing our accomplishments with you at this year’s State of the City Address.
