The Pharr police communications department is an essential part of the police department.
The communications department is manned 24hrs, 365 days a year and has at least 2 to 3 people at all times. This also includes holidays & weekends. In order to work as a communications officer a lot of training is involved as is the certification by Texas department of public safety.
In communications we handle 911 emergency calls for service whether its ambulance requests &/or any needs by the citizens. We also handle non emergency phones with the primary phone number being (956)784-7700.
Communications also maintains constant contact with police officers via a 2 channel radio in which calls for service are dispatched & reports are taken. Any pertinent reports are also kept in the communications
Contact is also maintained via satellite with other law enforcement agencies both state wide & nation wide.
The Pharr police communications department has had the prestigious recognition by the NENA(national emergency number association) in which 1 communications officer was given telecommunicator of the year & we have had 4 silent hero awards given to our personnel.
