An applicant for a taxicab license shall make application on forms provided by the City Clerk’s Office. Immediately upon the filing of an application, the City Clerk’s Office shall cause a notice to be published in a newspaper of general circulation.
The notice shall state that an application has been filed for a taxicab license, setting forth the name of the applicant, the kind of equipment, ownership of the equipment, and all other pertinent data in the application which may be of interest to the public generally and the City may deem necessary.
The publication shall constitute a notice to all persons that an application for said license is pending approval, and that such approval or denial shall be not less than five (5) days or more than thirty (30) days after the date of the first publication of the notice. Notice shall be published for two successive publications.
All holders of taxicab licenses or any other citizen shall be entitled to file any complaints, protests or objections concerning the application. The burden of proof shall be upon the applicant to establish by clear and convincing evidence that the public convenience and necessity require the operation of the vehicle(s) for which application has been made.
Application for Taxicab
Application must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office for review. Documentation required for processing of application per City of Pharr Ordinance No. O-2011-10:
– A non-refundable application fee of $250.00 shall accompany this application.
– Copy of Driver’s License of owner & drivers.
– Copy of proof of vehicle insurance with minimum requirements as per City Ordinance
– Completed Mechanics Certificate of Inspection Form
– Completed Taxicab Vehicle Inspection Form
Mechanics Certificate of Inspection Form
Mechanic Certificate of Inspection form must be completed by a City of Pharr mechanic approved by the State of Texas to issue state inspections.
Taxicab Vehicle Inspection Form
Taxicab Vehicle Inspection form must be completed by Pharr Police Department’s inspecting officer. Pharr Police Department is located at 1900 S. Cage Blvd. or an appointment may be made by contacting Sgt. Danny Garcia at (956) 402-4700.
ANNUAL RENEWAL PROCESS
Mechanics Certificate of Inspection form and Taxicab Vehicle Inspection form must be completed and submitted annually to certify taxicab vehicle(s) are in good and safe mechanical condition and the vehicle(s) has been approved for operation. Along with the forms, a renewal fee of $100.00 per taxicab unit and copy of current vehicle insurance must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by no later than the 1st day of January of each year.
