The Pharr Memorial Library’s Annual Dr. Seuss Celebration is a vibrant, community-focused event designed to promote childhood literacy and foster a love of reading among children and families.

The celebration also serves as a hub for community engagement, bringing together a wide variety of local partners—including schools, healthcare providers, literacy advocates, and social service organizations. These partners set up informational booths and interactive stations, offering families valuable resources to support children’s learning and well-being.

Children’s Initiatives

Family Place Libraries
Pharr Memorial Library
As a certified Family Place Libraries recipient, we are proud to offer quarterly Parent/Child Workshops—five-week sessions designed to empower parents and guardians to become their child’s first teacher.
Through early childhood development classes, we promote curiosity and exploration, foster language development, spark creativity and imagination, and nurture a love for nature and the environment.

Children in Nature Network
Pharr Memorial Library + Development and Research Center
We are proud to be a part of the Texas Children in Nature Network, demonstrating our commitment to connecting children and families with the natural world.
Each month, last Friday, we offer engaging nature programming designed especially for young children, fostering a sense of wonder and appreciation for the environment.
In addition, we ensure our homeschool community has access to these enriching experiences by hosting nature programs at least once every semester.
Through these initiatives, we strive to inspire curiosity, learning, and a lifelong love of nature in all our participants.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Pharr Memorial Library + Development and Research Center
We also encourage early literacy by offering incentives to families who participate in our year-round reading program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
This initiative rewards and motivates families as they work toward reading 1,000 books with their children before they enter school, helping to instill a lifelong love of reading and learning from an early age.
