Athletics Division

Stay active, have fun, and meet new friends in one of our many sports programs. Improved fitness levels, better health and opportunities for social interaction are just a few of the benefits of staying active while doing something you enjoy.

Below you can find an approximate time of year for the beginning of registration and season for each sport that is available. Programs We Offer

Girls Volleyball

The purpose of our Volleyball League is to teach the fundamentals of volleyball, such as scoring, passing, playing defense, as well as promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

Youth Flag Football

The purpose of our Youth Flag Football League is to teach the fundamentals of football, such as passing, catching, playing defense, as well as promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

Youth Tackle Football

The purpose of our Youth Tackle Football league is to teach the fundamentals of full contact football, such as passing, catching, tackling, playing defense, as well as promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

The purpose of our Basketball League is to teach the fundamentals of the game, such as shooting, dribbling, passing, playing defense, as well as promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.

PONY Baseball & Softball

The PONY Baseball/Softball League teaches the key fundamentals of the game such as fielding, batting, catching, and developing them into total athletes.

Winter Baseball

This season is held in an effort to enhance the skills of players for the upcoming PONY Baseball Season. It gives players that have never played before the opportunity to learn the game, develop some skills, and be exposed to the team experience prior to playing in a more competitive league.

Pharr Parks & Recreation strives to offer something for everyone when it comes to recreation. We offer an enormous variety of programs and classes to fit your every need.  Start now by exploring all the fun!!!

Classes We Offer

Ballet

The Ballet program emphasizes proper ballet technique with a focus on developing strength, alignment, musicality, and the grace that is inherit in the form. The class provides a focused, structured approach to learning movement principles.

Dance

Dance class focuses on basic jazz and hip-hop dance principles such as rhythms, body movements, coordination, and choreography. It will also give them an understanding of the classroom community, improve social skills and develop fine motor skills, all while having fun.

Tumbling

Tumbling class builds strength, power, courage and confidence. It will also give children a perfect venue for showing off both in and out of the class setting. Tumbling also helps children develop body awareness and balance.

Cheer

The Cheer program will improve self-confidence, physical health and teamwork skills all while having fun. The participants will learn proper arm movements, cheer, chants and choreography that are full of excitement and energy. It will also develop strength, flexibility, and teach life lessons on teamwork.

Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts are fun for children and the young at heart! The Art & Crafts program class will cover activities, projects, DIY activities, and decoration ideas. It will provide excellent inspiration for craft ideas for the kids.

Chess

Our chess program uses an interactive and hands on approach to learn chess with fun and engaging activities. Our activities include chess instruction and lessons, worksheets, problem solving and more tactics. Kids will learn chess with fun and effective strategies.

Guitar

Your child will learn some basic chords and strumming techniques in the beginner’s class. Then the next step is Guitar II, where they will continue to learn new chords and strumming techniques along with new songs. They will also learn how to tune a guitar.

Tennis

This class will introduce children to the basics of tennis emphasizing fun activities using pressure-less balls while highlighting hand eye and tracking skill development. They will also introduce player to stroke development of forehand, backhand and volley’s while practicing live ball rallies.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball and is currently one of the fastest growing sports in America! It may have a funny name, but it’s a serious sport! It’s fast paced, easy to learn, great exercise and lots of fun! A great ac­tivity for all ages. Come see what all the excitement is about! $1.00 Donation to play.

Theatre

The Theater program will teach children how to read music, sing notes and be the leader of the show. This class will work on proper vocal technique and breathe support as well as expression. Acting is a great tool to build confidence, self-esteem, and poise.

Golf

Golf class offers a unique opportunity to improve their swing and various levels of instruction. The participants will also learn a variety of golf techniques such as putting, chipping, pitching, sand play as well as understanding golf rules and on course etiquette.

Taekwondo

This program will enhance development in a fun and motivating environment. It focuses on improving basic motor and listening skills. Your child will learn how to work with others and follow directions through positive social interaction.
