Schoolyard Forestry Project
City News
Schoolyard Forestry Program Background:
The Schoolyard Forestry Project will create urban and community forests at eight PSJA school campuses. These green spaces play a vital role in improving student’s mental and physical health – a benefit that extends to the wider community by offering shade, cleaner air, and inviting areas for outdoor activity. By providing meaningful interaction with nature, the project boosts student well-being, instills a lifelong commitment to caring for the environment, and helps build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods in our great City of Pharr.
Why It Matters:
- Healthier Schoolyards – More shade, cleaner air, and cooler play areas
- Student Learning – Hands-on activities tied to science, ecology, and stewardship
- Community Impact – A greener future for everyone!
- Funded by the Texas A&M Forest Service
